Welcoming In the New Year with Fairfield Mayor Harry Price

Harry Price Our speaker, Fairfield Mayor Harry Price and his family moved to Fairfield in 1965, when he began a 33-year career teaching English at Vanden High School. Awarded an academic fellowship in 1969, he took a leave of absence and moved his family to Western Washington State University in Bellingham, Washington, where he earned a Master of Science degree in 1970.

 

Selected as the Solano County Teacher of the Year in 1986, Harry continued teaching until his retirement in 1998.

 

Harry was appointed to the Fairfield Community Services Commission in 1988, where he served until he was appointed to the Fairfield Planning Commission in 1992.

 

He served on the Planning Commission until his election to the Fairfield City Council in 1997. Harry was elected Vice-Mayor in 1999, ran unopposed for Mayor in 2005, and was re-elected Mayor in 2009, 2014, and 2018.

 

Active in the League of California Cities, Harry was elected president of the North Bay Division in 2002. He served three terms as elected president of the Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District; is past president of the California Association of Sanitary Agencies, and was a member of the Association's Executive Board of Directors for nine years.

 

Harry and his late wife, Betsy, have five adult children and six grandchildren.

Catherine Moy was born and raised in Fairfield, California. Her parents were also raised in Fairfield. Catherine graduated from Fairfield High School and attended Solano Community College before transferring and receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism from Hayward State College.

Following graduation from college, Catherine worked for the Daily Republic in Fairfield. She held the positions of editorial assistant, political and county reporter, feature columnist, and assistant city editor. From 2002 to 2008, Catherine worked as a columnist and freelance reporter for The Reporter in Vacaville. She also worked as a freelance writer for national magazines and various newspapers. During her career, Catherine received numerous awards and recognition from local, state, and national newspaper associations.
In 2005, Catherine began volunteering for Move America Forward, a non-profit organization that supports American troops serving overseas, and was appointed Executive Director of the organization in 2007. Catherine investigated, reported, and co-authored American Mourning, a best-selling book about two families whose lives changed dramatically after their sons were killed in Iraq.
Catherine has done volunteer work with children through Girl Scouts, youth sports, equestrian, and the arts. She has also been an active volunteer with the Loyal Order of Moose and served as a lay minister to Holy Spirit Church, serving sick, elderly, and terminally ill residents in Fairfield.
Catherine was appointed to the Fairfield City Council in October of 2008, following the death of City Councilmember Frank Kardos, and was elected to another term in 2009, 2014, and 2018.
Catherine and her husband, also a native of Fairfield, have been married for over 20 years and have one teenage daughter.

Brief Bio: Colleen Britton

In addition to her 25 year teaching career, Colleen owned and operated a home based photography business for eleven years. She was a licensed loan officer and certified mortgage planner. She has published several books and written countless articles over the years.

Active in her community, Colleen has served as past president of the Solano County Arts Council, and currently is the Bay Area Regional Coordinator for the Election Integrity Project Ca.

Colleen is also the founder and Chair of Constitution Literacy Advocates (CLA,) in Solano County. Twenty nineteen marks the eighth year that their group has sponsored an annual Constitution Essay Contest open to ALL Solano County students in grades 7-12, and the Annual Awards Presentation Dinner for winners, their families and teachers. Since the first year of the contest in 2012, more than 1,182 student entries have been received and $8,000 has been awarded to Solano County Students. This year’s topic will be, “Is Freedom of Speech under attack in America.” Plans are underway to engage more schools and increase participation in this year’s contest.

CLA volunteers also provide complimentary Pocket Constitutions to all seven of Solano County Public libraries.
